EC FP7 project NEXPReS receives excellent rating in EC's final review
24.09.2013
The Novel Explorations Pushing Robust e-VLBI Services (NEXPReS) project concluded in June, 2013 after three years of ground-breaking technology development funded by the European Union's Seventh Framework Programme. NEXPReS made significant improvements to the European VLBI Network (EVN) services and pioneered in high-bandwidth, high-capacity networked storage on demand, a work package lead by Aalto University Metsähovi Radio Observatory.
The international review panel nominated by EC and EC representatives met with the NEXPReS project coordinator, work package leaders and representatives at Joint Institute for VLBI in Europe (JIVE) in Dwingeloo, the Netherlands. On September 18, 2013 the review panel witnessed a highly successful 4 Gbps real-time demonstration in JIVE headquarters. On the following day, September 19, 2013 presentations were held about every work package, the demonstration, scientific outcome and financial overview. The review panel recommended EC to rate the third and final year of NEXPReS with the highest grade 'excellent'. This was the second time in a row for NEXPReS to receive excellent rating in the periodical project review.
